Weddings & Covid-19

Here at B&W we create an average of 60 weddings a year. They’re not all big, but they’re all unique and totally special – a combination of bespoke events and our ‘Wild Wedding’ packages.

Wedding planning can be hard and stressful, we know, so we’re devastated for our couples who have the added stress of Coronavirus added to the mix. The excitement is suddenly overwhelmed by anxiety – whilst some weddings for April have been postponed through the lockdown, it’s hard to see into the future and know what will come over the next few months.

On Monday March 23rd, Mr Johnson said: ‘From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction – you must stay at home. ‘To ensure compliance with the Government’s instruction to stay at home, we will immediately… stop all social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies, but excluding funerals.”

Of course, none of us know now whether the three week initial ‘stay at home’ request, (I won’t call it a lockdown since that isn’t strictly true at this stage,) will be continued. For my money, I’m expecting it to be extended. Unfortunately some of the publics inability to follow one simple ask will, in my opinion, cause a full lockdown BUT I’m only speculating here. Please don’t take my word for it!

I for one, want that just as little as anyone else. Our shop is closed, we don’t have any income and we hate putting off the events we’ve worked so hard to plan for. However, it could become a reality, so, what are we doing for our couples to make it easier? Well, firstly please know that I’m here for you! You can get in touch anytime to discuss and I’m totally happy to do that with you.

Secondly, we’re transferring your booking fee to your new date, if you need to postpone, whether it’s enforced or your decision. It is worth bearing in mind that we did already have a busy autumn and 2021 booked in, but that we’re doing everything we can do accommodate your first choice of date. We have opened up dates that ordinarily we wouldn’t book, such as some birthdays, anniversaries and bank holidays, as well as all Sundays, but Fridays are a great option too, as are Thursdays. We have also seen a rise in the number of Monday weddings!

And what are we doing with our time away from the shop you ask? Well, besides the usual emails, we’re working hard on getting our cutting patch operational, so that when your big day does come around, we can offer you some truly beautiful, British and exquisite blooms.

Do remember though, through all of this, that you aren’t cancelling, you’re only postponing. One of my favourite florists, Zita Elze, put it beautifully when she said “The magic hasn’t gone, it’s just slightly more out of reach for now,” as part of a blog post for Flowerona. We were delighted to add our thoughts to the post too, and I have linked it below as well as another very interesting read for you.

DO take care, we’re thinking of all of you and really and truly can’t wait to be flowering again and working on your wonderful weddings.
